Neurological Integration
The process of Neurological Integration is a relatively
new technique to the scientific and psychological fields. It has been with man,
however, since the beginning of time. First developed by Dr. Kenneth Fabian of
Portales, N.M., N.I. consists of visio-neuro-psychological processes utilizing
the psychological bond between the eyes, the brain, and the pineal gland.
The connection between the pineal gland (a higher order brain function) and
pituitary gland (including the limbic system) is immature in most humans. These
and other brain functions usually bond (make mature connection) in the first
60-90 days of life. The integration occurs normally between mother and child.
However, in our modern society, where babies are delivered in hospitals and are
usually kept from their mothers for extended periods of time, those integration
moments are rare, if at all.
Through experience and experimentation, Dr. Fabian found that only integrated
persons can integrate another after a person is 3 months old.
Deep emotions are contained in the primary areas of the psyche and are
unavailable to a large portion of the population. What most of us have done
throughout our lives is live these early emotions without comprehending or
dealing with them. When N.I. occurs, the upper brain makes complete
communication with the lower or primary brain. This conjunction of brains
joins the physical with the emotional and mental brains. It also connects the
pre-birth, post-birth and early development with present time.
Immediately after integration, a maturity process begins, taking the
individual through their deep emotions of earliest childhood, starting with
birth and developing to the present. Since these lower level deep emotions are
extremely strong and pervasive, RET is recommended, coupled with Inner Child
work.
The physiological theories behind N.I. are difficult to substantiate,
however, we know that something physiological is occurring because we can view
the changes in the eyes of the client. Since the eyes are connected to the brain
stem at the base of the limbic system - the seat of our emotions - it stands to
reason that a change in emotional levels would manifest in the eyes. What is
amazing at this point in our research is that the integration always returns the
client to his/her birth and begins the process of contacting and communicating
deepest and slowest emotions. RET has been added to enhance and speed the
process of accessing deep affect emotion and communicating it to others.
N.I. causes deep emotion to become 'broader, deeper, stronger'. As a result,
clients who choose to avoid their deep emotions must intensify their defenses
against them. At least 10 RET sessions are recommended to complete the N.I. and
Inner Child work.
